The modern-day Syrian civil war is the product of a fallout that resulted from decisions made by Hillary Clinton's tenure as Secretary of State (2009-2013) while under the Obama Administration. Clinton’s decisions made during her tenure created a ripple effect that caused thousands of innocent people in Syria to perish. going behind the scenes, to expose the United States’ motive behind fueling the war with weapons from Libya, the support of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the backing of “regime changes” in nations that infuriated the Muslim Brotherhood. The epicenter behind the decisions lies in evidence of Clinton’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood, a group with a long and complex history in the Middle East.

Using Arab Channels to Pave the Way for the Arab Spring Fuels the Overthrow of Libya and Syria

The complexity of Hillary Clinton’s role in the “Arab Spring” was more assertive than that of President Obama. Obama was criticized for being “ambivalent and hesitant” when it came to actively engaging with regional players. Clinton’s devotion to leveraging media channels, used to influence the geopolitical arena, tailored to sway the outcomes to the benefit of the Muslim Brotherhood, was brought to light via emails that had been leaked.

“There is evidence, in the form of Clinton’s emails, which shows that the Obama administration was deeply involved in preparing the ground for the Arab Spring revolutions… doing everything possible to spread chaos in the region," political analyst Walid Phares stated. Clinton’s emails reveal her active involvement in influencing the Arab Spring uprisings. In one email, she reportedly asked Qatar to fund the Arab Spring through the Clinton Foundation, emphasizing overthrowing Arab regimes such as Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak, the home of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Wadah Khanfar, a former director of Al Jazeera and a known ally of the Muslim Brotherhood, served as a bridge between Clinton, Qatar, and the Muslim Brotherhood. In 2010, Khanfar reportedly urged U.S. officials, particularly Clinton, to intervene in regime changes in Egypt, Libya, and Syria. Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin—herself linked to a prominent Muslim Brotherhood family—facilitated these connections.

Additional emails revealed Clinton’s support of the Brotherhood’s push for propaganda. In 2012, Clinton demanded that Qatar fund $100 million to foster the Muslim Brotherhood TV channel. Clinton allegedly promised U.S. support for Al-Jazeera and other Brotherhood-linked media outlets in exchange for propagating Islamist political ideology across Arab and Islamic television and radio stations.

Killing Two-Birds with One Stone: Libya and Syria

Colonel Gaddafi remained in power from 1969 until 2011. Linked to terrorism, Gaddafi acted as a suppressor upon his people. Gaddafi provided the United States with intelligence on al-Qaeda and surrendered Libya’s nuclear program. Secretary Clinton apparently opened the doors to the White House to one of Colonel Gaddafi’s sons, asserts Dempocracy Now, a dark money organization. Moreover,

“Colonel Gaddafi’s huge arsenal of weapons has shown up in the hands of terrorists in places like Gaza, Syria, Nigeria, and Mali…the power vacuum has allowed ISIS to build its most dangerous outpost on the Libyan coast…Meanwhile, back at home, Mrs. Clinton has struggled to defend the decision to intervene.”

Clinton of dictator Muammar al-Qaddafi. “We had a murderous dictator, Gadhafi...who had American Blood on his hands…And we had the Arabs standing by our side saying, ‘We want you to help us deal with Gadahfi [al-Qaddafi].’” Simultaneously, she backed armed rebellions in Syria against both al-Qaeda's presence and Assad's regime at the same time. Obama, at this time, was working with MI6 to carry out plans to procure weapons for rebel groups in Syria. Seymour M. Hersh “funding came from Turkey, as well as Saudi Arabia and Qatar; the CIA, with the support of MI6, was responsible for getting arms from Gaddafi’s arsenals into Syria.” So his acts would remain undetected by the United States Congress. In an email sent from Sidney Blumenthal to Clinton, it was asserted, “British support for the rebels during the fighting, certain members of the NTC remain focused on the fact that the British government and oil industry had good relations with the Qaddafi regime, particularly the firm British Petroleum (BP).”

The Muslim Brotherhood saw an opportunity in the Syrian uprising to oppose Assad's regime. On September 23, 2011, the Brotherhood's Syrian branch called for continuing the revolution until Assad's overthrow. Clinton publicly declared in 2012 that "Assad must go," aligning with the Brotherhood's goals.

“Costing more than $1 billion, Operation Timber Sycamore evolved into the largest covert operation since the arming of mujahedin fighters in Afghanistan in the 1980s. U.S. Special Forces under Timber Sycamore again trained Islamic fundamentalists, this time in Jordan, who again carried out a reign of terror.”

Championing the training of moderate Syrian rebel groups, Secretary Hillary Clinton supported the operation to equip Syrian rebels to help fight Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria with weapons left over from al-Qaddafi’s Arsenal. In September of 2012, President Obama signed into legislation the authorization for the United States to arm and train Syrian rebels in the fight against ISIS and ISI; the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Two years later, after she had left office.

As Secretary of State, Clinton consistently advocated for military action:

"She pressed Obama to arm the Syrian rebels and later endorsed airstrikes against the Assad regime. She backed intervention in Libya, and her State Department helped enable Obama's expansion of lethal drone strikes. In fact, Clinton may have been the administration's most reliable advocate for military action."

In 2011, before President Obama signed into legislation to support backing the Syrian rebels with weapons, the U.S., through assisting MI6 6 was helping fuel the fire. Sources claim that this venture was conducted by Chris Steeves, which Business Insider asserts the mounting of evidence supports that “U.S. agents — particularly murdered ambassador Chris Stevens [after a primary meeting with Turkey] — were…aware of heavy weapons moving from Libya to jihadist Syrian rebels.”

In March 2011, Stevens became the official U.S. liaison to the al-Qaeda-linked Libyan opposition, working directly with Abdelhakim Belhadj of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group — a group that has now disbanded, with some fighters reportedly participating in the attack that took Stevens' life. Facilitated Weapons included in the shipment from Libya to Turkey—destined for Syria—attacked helicopters, advanced systems like SA-7 surface-to-air missiles, and other small weapons. partly by the Brotherhood within the “Free Syrian Army’s operation room,” along with support from the Obama administration, channeled supplies to rebels with the support of Turkish authorities and the United States. Weapons from post-Qaddafi Libya, including, were shipped to Turkey for use against Assad's regime. Abdelhakim Belhaj, leader of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), organized shipments of 400 tons of weapons for Syrian rebels.

In August 2012, the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood (SMB) had come out of hiding. Newly formed militias revived caused growing concern among Assad’s regime. The SMB planned coordinated attacks with weapons shipped from Libya.

Turkey’s alleged involvement in supporting jihadist factions like al-Nusra, and its purported role in facilitating chemical weapons production suggest that elements within the Turkish government may have sought to provoke a U.S. military response by orchestrating or enabling a sarin attack. This aligns with broader concerns about Turkey’s ambitions in Syria and its support for Islamist rebels, which were driven by both strategic and ideological motives.

Hillary Clinton's tenure as Secretary of State (2009-2013) had profound implications for U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, particularly in Libya and Syria. Her assertive approach to the Arab Spring and subsequent interventions has left a complex legacy that continues to shape the region today.
